Port of Kokkola showcases European AWT network

The Port of Kokkola in Western Finland, ranked among the country's busiest ports and one of the largest along the Gulf of Bothnia, continues to go from strength to strength.

A new multi-million Euro investment programme, including a rotary tippler terminal to handle increasing volumes of dry bulks, is ensuring the Port is well positioned to handle every kind of traffic as it builds its reputation as a key marine gateway for the CIS and Russia.

Kokkola is also the northern terminus for the pan-European All Weather Terminal network. At 132m long, 62m wide and 35m high, Kokkola's AWT is the largest in the network capable of receiving, loading and discharging vessels up to 9500dwt at its enclosed dock area. The terminal is primarily designed to cater for weather-sensitive shipments – timber, metals and general cargo – that make up a high proportion of traffic through Kokkola.

The new tippler terminal and the concept behind the AWT network – along with the Port's vision for the future – is encapsulated in the official 56-page publication Kokkola:The Port For All Seasons, produced for the Port Authority of Kokkola by specialist transportation publisher Meridian Publications Ltd.

The publication brings the Port's story right up to date through high-quality editorial, images and design. Also included are in-depth features on economic development and tourism opportunities across the region, plus reports on major companies active at the Port of Kokkola.
